CSArts students have a lot on their plate. Balancing academics and conservatory take up many hours of the day, plus many students have a side-job. So, how do CSArts students balance it all?
Senior student Shane Taylor, in Commercial Dance, is working at a local Ice Cream Shop. He started over the summer and decided to keep the job throughout the school year.
“A lot of times during the weekdays I go straight from work to school for a 5:30-11:00 pm shift,” said Taylor. “This leaves me no time for homework or rest, so instead I have heavily relied on my late start and office hours to get stuff done.”
It is important if you are working to figure out a schedule that works for you. A schedule that allows you to have enough time to do homework, study, and your conservatory’s duties. Shane ended up figuring out a schedule that he is content with.
“I have been able to find the right balance for me, where I still can participate and involve myself in school enough to be satisfied,” said Taylor.
Shane has found that working at the Ice Cream Shop has been completely worth it. He feels like he is contributing to his community and finding his independence.
Mrs. Bolton, the Work Permit Coordinator, tackles helping students through the steps of securing a job. ¨We ensure they meet necessary requirements for obtaining one” said Bolton.
