A new class has been added to the roster! Chemistry’s competition, Earth and Space Sciences, sets the stage and opens new learning opportunities. Recently, a class called “Earth and Space Sciences” started, giving students fresh ways to see science differently and seemingly challenging chemistry for student numbers.
What exactly is Earth and Space Sciences? It’s simply as it sounds; it’s the science of Earth and space. The Earth, Space, and Science Teacher at CSArts describes it as “an exploration of the universe and all the processes we observe on Earth– covering a wide range of topics, with a little bit of everything,” said Zachary Miller. CSArts is the perfect place for such a class, considering how diverse our students, staff, and learning environments are. “It’s definitely fast because we have so much information,” Miller says about the class.
Chemistry deals with concepts and various lab experiments, from working with simple tape and magnets to making the famous “elephant toothpaste.” “Chemistry is simple math in a hectic setting,” said Chemistry teacher Jessica Pham . Chemistry not only involves science but also math; the hardest part is “visualizing things that you can’t see. We are talking about a world beyond microscopes.”
Choosing the right class can seem tough, as each has its own challenges. “For me, the subjects were really interesting; I enjoyed them because they were simple and digestible; it was all relatively simple,” says Chris Rappaport, ‘28, IM, and a current AP Chem student. “It’s really nice. It’s honestly fun too because I loved Earth and Space Sciences growing up, so being able to go in depth about Earth and space specifically is really cool,” said Mylo Torres, ‘29, VA, and a current Earth and Space Science student. Each class is unique to its audience, so which one is best depends on you!
